Not many cars manage to rack up 150,000 miles on their odometers so when Ron Hill, the former European and Commonwealth Marathon Champion, achieved this feat it became another major accomplishment to add to his long list.

Born on September 25th, 1938, in Accrington, Lancashire, UK, Ron gained his B.Sc. (Tech) (1960) and his PhD (1964) in Textile Chemistry, at Manchester University. He was appointed MBE in 1971 for 'services to athletics'.

Ron completed his 150,000th mile on the pitch prior to the Accrington Stanley FC match on Saturday (22/12/07) to the applause of his hometown supporters.

Now a technical consultant for Hilly Clothing Ltd (the company he started), Ron hasn’t missed a days running since December 20th 1964.
