International Amathunta Half Marathon & 10 km (Cyprus)
The inaugural running event (takes place on Sunday 19th November 2006 and with 2 different distances (Half Marathon & 10 km Road Race) it is addressed to runners of all standards and ages. A fast time is expected as the course is classified as mostly flat and fast. Participants of both races will do an out and back loop along the scenic beach road of Agios Tychonas. The distance has been measured according to AIMS standards. Runners from all over Europe will gather at Agios Tychonas to enjoy the company of like-minded people and race against a varied field of competitors. The number of overseas entries will outperform the number of runners from Cyprus. The race is expected to attract a strong participation from UK runners who they will combine racing with a short holiday on the island. A lot of Cypriots and British Forces runners will join in both events. Everyone who finishes the Amathunta Half Marathon and 10 km Road Race will receive a specially designed, unique medal plus a commemorative Half Marathon T-shirt to celebrate their achievement. Trophies will be awarded to the first three runners in each of the 32 age group categories. Both events will start at 9:30 a.m. Enjoy traditional Cypriot and Greek dancing after the race and make the effort to join in. The event will also incorporate a number of activities which will make it a fun event for all the family. The organisers would encourage all runners to consider participating in one of the two events whatever their standard remembering that competing is as important as winning.
