A further Extraordinary General Meeting has been called for the AAA of England to be held on Saturday, 10th December 2005 at 1.00pm. The venue will be Hilton Hotel, East Midlands Airport, Junction 24 of the M1, Derby Road, Derby, United Kingdom DE74 2YW. Unlike the previous EGM, Clubs will be asked to vote on a transparent and unambiguous resolution.
Resolution to be voted on:
"The A.A.A. of England agrees that all governance of Athletics in England will be transferred to a new body, England Athletics Ltd. and that, consequently Clause 3 (1) of the Memorandum of Association of the Company shall be removed."
It is with great sadness that clubs have observed that even the management board of the AAA of England have avoided giving the membership the opportunity to vote on the key issue of the transference of governance. Since May 2004 the clubs have quietly voiced their concerns about the proposed changes. Finally it has fallen onto the clubs to collectively demand an EGM so they might give a straight answer to a straight question.
Already the South of England Athletics Association (SEAA) has instructed its Honorary Secretary to vote against the resolution. It is hoped that all of the affiliated Athletics Clubs, Running Clubs and Counties of England will follow this lead.
The Athletic Clubs and Running Clubs of England are urged to vote NO to this resolution.
If a member of your club cannot attend the EGM to vote AGAINST the resolution in person please use your proxy vote.
For advice on who to nominate as your club's proxy please reply to this email. Kind Regards C.Zacharides (Zac) http://www.british-athletics.co.uk/foster

- You may be aware that Sport England are currently inflicting changes onto the sport of athletics in the form of The Foster Review.
These changes include the "Fresh Start", which means closing down the AAA of England, the Regional Associations (Midlands, North and South), and effectively allowing our County Associations to wither on the vine.
In April 2006, with Sport England money new quango organisations will be formed to run the sport of athletics in England. English Athletics, and 9 Regional Quango's (Hubs).
We must not allow Sport England to close down our successful Associations, at least until the new organisations are proven to be robust.
Please visit the web address below, and sign the petition to Save the AAA of England from closure. http://www.british-athletics.co.uk/foster/petition.htm
During the Autumn your athletics club will have an opportunity to vote on these matters. Please also involve yourself in how your club chooses to vote. Your support would be much appreciated. Kind Regards C.Zacharides (Zac)

- Just would like to share this with you.....
- Dear Nigel
Thank you for being a vital part of Birmingham’s Race for Life on Wednesday 15th June. Cancer Research UK is a volunteer led organisation so thank you for being one of the 30,000 volunteers who work with us for the aim - to help cure cancer faster.
The day was a great success and we have had some fantastic feedback from the participants and we hope that the 2,500 women who took part will raise over £125,000. This money will go directly to the doctors, nurse’s and scientists who are working to find ways of preventing, treating and curing cancer.
Thank you very much for coming along on the day, and taking the afternoon off work, your help and experience was invaluable on the day - thanks for setting up the course and looking after all of the marshals.
Good luck with all your exploits in the running world and with Whizz Kidz.
Thanks again and all the best, look forward to seeing you in 2006!

- Dear Running Clubs, Do you have some of your members who would really enjoy the fun atmosphere of a half marathon race without having to run the whole 13.1 miles? Get your entries in very quickly! For those of you who are involved with running clubs in the immediate area around Stoke-on-Trent, please do encourage your members not only to take part in the full race or the relay but to get all their friends and families out along the course to cheer us along. - The Running Inn. We are based in Eastbourne and just finishing a massive rennovation project on a beautiful building near the seafront and ready to launch our business as our run for fitness weekends start in September 2005.
Fiona Bugler is a marathon runner, a former journalist turned fitness trainer with numerous qualifications, including Permier's Personal Training, Pre and post natal, Body Balance, my partner is a former officer in the Royal Navy and 400m runner for the combined services, with numerous training qualifications. - I am a runner in San Francisco, CA that was frustrated by trying to determine exact route distances. I found driving them to be tedious, time consuming, and less than accurate, especially when I wanted to run on trails, through parks, and down one-way streets where cars cannot go. So, I got together with another runner-friend of mine and created a FREE online application called Route Ruler, which allows athletes to draw their own routes on downloaded maps and gives them exact distances. As far as we know this is the only free service of its kind, and it eliminates the need for buying costly GPS gadgets.
We are still fine-tuning some of the features and look of the site, but we do have a website up at www.routeruler.com , and want you to take a look at it. We feel it could turn out to be a great training tool for some of your subscribers. Since you are the experts, we wanted to see if you would send us any comments you might have. If you like it, please feel free to tell your subscribers, we feel it could prove a useful training tool for them. Also please feel free to post a link to our site. We will be constantly improving the look and usability of Route Ruler through the coming months. I hope you like it, and I look forward to any comments you may send. - Careline is a small but national crisis telephone counselling charity. we are used by both BBC & ITV television as well as by BBC radio as one of their referral lines. Particularly as we take calls from all age groups on any subject matter. We do not receive any Government or Lottery funding and therefore use the London Marathon, the Great North Run and for the first time this year the BUPA South Run to raise essential funds. Whilst our golden bond places in the L.Marathon are already taken, we do have 25 guaranteed places in the Great North Run and I am waiting confirmation for a similar number in the BUPA South Run. - The Afford Rent-A-Car Potters Arf is set to become a major force in British road running. The new 13.1 mile event which takes place on Sunday 12th June replaces the Afford Rent-A-Car potteries marathon which disappeared after a successful 23 year run. The new event boasts some lucrative cash prizes which should help to attract some of the country’s top road runners and British based Kenyans. The first man and woman home will walk away with a cash prize of £650. In addition, if the winning man breaks 65 minutes, then he will lift a further £500 cash bonus. It is looking highly likely that the winning woman will also be offered a cash bonus, when the target time has been set.
The second man and woman will receive £150 and the third man and woman’s reward is £100. The first male and female veteran over the line, irrespective of age, will carry off a £100 cash prize. Race Director Don Shelley said, “We are quite excited about the prospects for the race. We already have over 300 runners entered. The course and the half marathon distance offer the potential to attract more runners than the marathon and we are quite confident of achieving our aim of a field of at least 1500. The cash prizes should help to attract some top runners and that helps to establish the race for future years. We are confident of attracting lots of new runners. The half marathon is a much more attainable goal than the 26.2 mile distance. Our big challenge is to sell the race to the Potteries public. We need to get them out on the streets in numbers, in the same way that the Great North Run does. The race starts and finishes in Hanley, our major town in the Potteries and that should be a big attraction. The race organisation has a recognised pedigree in road race organisation and that should help to attract competitors. The race has a limit of 2000 runners and it would be fantastic if we could reach that target. It would make the race a real spectacle. We are grateful for the continuing support of Afford Rent-A-Car, whose sponsorship is allowing us to offer a lucrative prize list”. Competitors can enter the race on line at www.pottersarf.co.uk, or if runners require further details than they can contact Don on 07760 218809

10th December 2004 - New Race www.potters-arf.co.uk
Dear Fellow Runners,
I am addressing this email to you hoping you are the correct person to contact. I have some information which may be of interest to your running club members. If you are not the correct person, please accept my apologies. If you can pass this on, then I'd be grateful, if not, perhaps you could simply reply and I will remove your details from my list. I would like to let your running club members know of an exciting new race which will take place next June. It is called the Afford Rent-a-Car POTTERS ARF - a half marathon race being held in Stoke-on-Trent on June 12th. This new event has been born from the famous Potteries Marathon (known and loved by many as the Friendly Marathon) which was held in the area for 23 years. The race will start at the bustling heart of the city centre, in Hanley and will follow a circular, undulating route that includes a 5 mile section of the former marathon course where runners are guaranteed to receive the usual fantastic spectator support from the people of the Potteries. The race finishes back in the City Centre alongside the statue of Sir Stanley Matthews who was the Marathon Patron for many years. It is expected that the shorter distance will attract many new runners who may have found a full marathon too daunting but who still want a challenge and want to enjoy the excellent atmosphere of a race in this friendly city. Every effort is being made to attract a top class field with invitations being sent to leading distance runners. However, runners of all abilities are urged to put the POTTERS ARF on their "must do" list of races for 2005. Stoke-on-Trent City Council are giving their full support for this event and there will be free parking for runners and ample changing and baggage storage facilities. There will be plenty of other supporting events taking place at the same time so families and friends who come along to support runners will also be kept entertained. It is sure to be a great day out for all the family. If you would like more information, such as posters and entry forms, please don't hesitate to contact the Event Director - Mr Don Shelley, 22 Mount Avenue, Stone, ST15 8HU. Or visit the website (online entries already being accepted) - www.potters-arf.co.uk Kind Regards Ann WilliamsPublicity CoordinatorAfford Rent-a-Car Potters Arf

27th August 2004 - Paula Radcliffe
Well she did it - And I have to admit to being one of those who willed Paula Radclife to step back onto the track in Athens. I feel it was the right thing to do rather as Paula quoted herself "If I didn't do it there would always be that what if?" It was fairly obvious once she had past half way she was quickly dropping of the pace and drifting back down the field. She was working hard to keep in contention but with a grueling 20 miles still in the legs and probably her worst week in athletics I feel that steping off the track was the right move. Surely if she had carried on she would of done herself greater damage.
It was fantastic to see Paula back on the track and see her at the start smiling and sharing a joke. It was good to see that her fellow competitors wished her well too, such is the respect and high regard she is held within the sport. Forget what the pundits and the journalists who write her off as a failure this olympics say. There is one thing about Paula Raclife, and if you ever meet her like I have on a number of occasions you will instantly spot this. Like you and me she is one of us.....She is a runner and loves to run like you and me. And like you and me we have the occasional bad day at the office.....this week was Paula Radclifes bad day at the office!!!! Well done Paula!!!!!!

Fact or Fiction? Every so often I get a mail that makes me think? We love your feedback and look forward to reading more of it that is the whole nature of the site. For further conformation click on the link after reading this report.
Welshman Abichal Watkins decided to spend his summer in New York — that in itself is not remarkable. The fact that he spent the time running 3100 miles around a school in Queens, New York is. Abichal was one of 12 participants in the Self-Transcendence 3100 mile race. The race is run on a .5488 of a mile sidewalk loop. The participants get to run or walk for 18 hours from 6am to midnight trying to accumulate as many miles each day in their quest to complete 3100 miles. This is Abichal's second attempt at the distance, last year he completed 2747 miles in 53 days, an average of 52.01 miles per day. He is the editor of a new running website, Multidays.com and a forthcoming book titled the Multiday Runners Handbook. Oh! By the way the 43 year old from Pontypool finished the race this year completing the distance of 3100 miles in 55 days + 8:32:41, he then went on to reach 5000k in 55 days 11:04:59, both Welsh and British records (pending). www.srichinmoyraces.org
